Lucky in Love: New Orleans
- X
In Lucky in Love, Rachel and Paul leave their New Orleans date to a coin flip. You won’t need one to decide where to start. This bookable itinerary drops you into the French Quarter, onto a Mississippi steamboat, and onto streets where live music spills out of the doorways. The link below opens the full trip, where you can change, edit, or lengthen any part of it.
Powdered Sugar and the French Quarter
New Orleans is a Louisiana port city where French, Spanish, and Creole influences have mixed for centuries into their own food, music, and architecture, and the French Quarter is where it all comes together. Start at Café du Monde, where hot, pillowy beignets arrive buried in powdered sugar next to a steaming cup of coffee. You will leave wearing some of it.
From there, the Quarter is yours to wander. Royal Street runs past antique shops and galleries, and Jackson Square opens up below St. Louis Cathedral, a landmark with three spires that you will want to photograph. Duck into the French Market to browse the stalls, then join the French Quarter Food Tour and eat your way through the neighborhood, one local favorite at a time.
A Steamboat on the Mississippi
The Jazz Lunch Cruise is the afternoon you will talk about. You board the Steamboat Natchez, ease out onto the Mississippi River, and sit down to lunch on board while jazz plays and the city slides past. It is a table with a view, the music of New Orleans, and a river that has shaped the city for centuries, all in one outing.
Music, Streetcars, and Ghost Stories
When the sun goes down, head to Frenchmen Street, where clubs fill with live music night after night and the sidewalks hum. Hop on the New Orleans Streetcar for a rolling look at the city, then step into the mansion at the center of local ghost stories. The LaLaurie Mansion has a dark history, and its reputation draws visitors who like their sightseeing with a shiver.
Your base for all of it is Maison de la Luz, the itinerary hotel, so each night ends somewhere comfortable. If you cannot choose between the food tour and the cruise, flip a coin. It worked for Rachel and Paul.
