Travel Man: Miami

Miami City Break
Miami is not quite like anywhere else in America. The light is different here, sharper and warmer, bouncing off pastel facades and open water in a way that makes everything look slightly heightened. The city runs on Cuban coffee, Caribbean rhythm, and an energy that peaks late and starts again early. It is loud, beautiful, and completely comfortable with both.
In the Travel Man episode, Richard Ayoade and Rhod Gilbert fit Miami into 48 hours: art and art deco, beach yoga neither of them is any good at, crab meat lollipops eaten in crab bibs, dominoes, thick sweet Cuban coffee, and an airboat tour of the Everglades ridden with some nerves about alligators. This itinerary keeps the same formula at a slower pace, based at The Tony Hotel South Beach in the Art Deco Historic District: the art, the Everglades and Cuban coffee culture, with beach mornings built in. The link below opens the full trip, and it is fully customizable.
Art Deco Days
The Tony Hotel South Beach sits in the Art Deco Historic District, an easy walk from Ocean Drive's restored 1930s facades, pastel awnings and sidewalk cafes. A 40-minute guided tour of the Wynwood Walls covers the open-air street-art museum, and a 30-minute helicopter tour shows the coastline from above. Between the tours, the beach is steps away and the district's cafes and bars fill the evenings.

The Everglades by Airboat
The five-hour Everglades airboat tour runs with round-trip transfer, the same ride Ayoade and Gilbert took. An airboat skims the shallow sawgrass prairies on a fan propeller, so it can cross the River of Grass where nothing else can. Expect wading birds, herons and turtles, and the occasional alligator sliding off the bank.

Run on Cuban Coffee
Miami runs on Cuban coffee and Caribbean rhythm, and this city break leaves room for both. Build slow mornings around cafecito stops and save yourself for the evenings, when the energy peaks late and starts again early. The itinerary's theme says it well: the light here is sharper and warmer than anywhere else in America.
One hotel, three headline experiences and the beach in between. The itinerary books as a single trip through the link below, and it is fully customizable. Add a night, swap the helicopter for a longer Wynwood wander, or stretch the beach mornings. Click through and shape it into your own.
